Maintenance of Guide Rails and Racks for CNC Engraving Machines
Core Principles: Cleaning + Standardized Lubrication + Sealed Protection + Regular Inspection. Following these four steps will significantly extend service life and reduce machining errors.
Daily Maintenance (Before / After Shift)
Cleaning
Use a lint-free soft cloth (microfiber cloth preferred) dampened with kerosene or special guide rail cleaner to wipe the guide rail raceways, rack tooth surfaces and chip scrapers thoroughly, removing all chips and oil contamination.
For metal chip environments: first use a magnetic scraper to absorb iron chips. For dusty working conditions: gently brush the tooth roots with a soft brush to avoid scratching tooth surfaces with hard tools.
Strictly prohibit direct high-pressure air blowing-this can blow debris into the sliders / gear interiors and accelerate wear. If air purging is necessary, first wipe with a damp cloth and use a vacuum cleaner for low-pressure purging from one side to the other.
Lubrication
Guide Rails: Apply special guide rail oil (recommended viscosity: ISO VG 32–68) to ensure a uniform oil film on sliders. Check oil level for automatic lubrication systems. For manual lubrication points, inject oil until it slightly overflows from both ends, then run back and forth slowly 5–10 times to distribute the oil film evenly.
Racks: Apply lithium-based grease (suitable for metal meshing) in a thin, uniform layer; avoid over-application which attracts dust. For high-speed / heavy-load conditions, select extreme-pressure grease to improve wear resistance and load-carrying capacity.
Inspection
Guide Rails: Visually inspect for scratches, rust or pitting; ensure smooth movement without crawling or abnormal noise.
Racks: Check for chipped teeth, pitting or rust; ensure smooth meshing without jamming.
Protection: Confirm chip scrapers / protective covers are intact, with no deformation or damage.
